A taste from the electronic music pioneer, Gary Numan. This track is off a 2009 re-mastering of his solo debut album, ‘The Pleasure Principle’. I remember listening to the song ‘Cars’ as a child and thinking the synthesizer sounds were from the future. So, remember your roots, break out the black eye liner, and have a happy Friday.

To celebrate numero 50, Mr. track is pleased to bring you a rather melancholy selection from Icelandic producer, Yagya. An apt companion to the cold drizzly New York Monday, his velvety soundscapes remind us of a cosmic dub version of The Field. So crank up the headphones, close the shades, and prepare the sensory deprivation chamber.

Here’s a long player off their EP, Fall Be Kind. The initial build stretching from space birds to descending keys is quite lovely. The remainder of the track takes you along the requisite Animal Collective spiritual mini-journey, ending back in nebulous clouds.

Caribou offers this good-natured little taster of his forthcoming album, Swim(out April 16th). We’ve followed Dan Snaith ever since his he was known as Manitoba in the early 00′s. His last album in ’07, Andorra, showed the world that adding a Producer’s personal vocals to a project could actually be a good thing. It remained in heavy Mr. T rotation for some time, and even became popular with our friends who normally scoff at “electronic music”. On this track, the high refrain, bells, and bass line bring to mind the joyful days of roller skating parties. And after a day like today, you deserve an upbeat theme for the commute home.

Having never been huge fans of Pantha du Prince, it was a pleasant surprise to hear this track off his new album, Black Noise. The first minute feels like waking up from a dream, or preparing to enter one. Once the bassline kicks in, the listener is presented with a feast of undulating techno lasagna. Each layer transitioning to the next with little fuss and lots of melted cheese.

A meditative tune to accompany the remainder of this blessed Friday. It’s from the ’08 compilation ‘Space Oddities’, that was assembled by the French DJs Alexis Le-Tan & Jess. The remainder of the album is top notch library/film/television music with more of a space disco sound. Kick back and imagine the gazelle passing before your cubicle.

A little something from the Aphex archives. Off his ’99 album, Selected Ambient Works, Vol 2. Simple, beautiful, electronic music.

The brother-sister duo is back and kicking off the year in dark style. The Knife were tapped by the Danish performance group Hotel Pro Forma to write an electro-opera based on Charles Darwin’s book, The Origin of Species. It’s a collaborative work featuring Berlin electronic musicians Mt. Sims and Planningtorock, as well as an opera singer, actor, percussionist, and a pop singer. The percussive vocals at the beginning of Colouring of Pigeons sound like a shaman’s chant guiding you down into the belly of some vast auditory digestive system. Once inside, you encounter numerous voices and mysterious noises while the pulse continually drives you deeper. Eventually, the consonance stretches into dissonance, and you’re ejected out the other end feeling confused, elated, and ready for more.

Always on the prowl for artists with a Boards of Canada tinge, we’re jumping on the recent FUR bandwagon. Bryce Isbell has been producing music since 2006, but this is the first gem to fall into MisterTrack’s hands. This piece is actually a collaboration between FUR and Alan Palomo from Neon Indian. Between the beautiful synth line and subtle steady pacing, it’s a great soundtrack for dreaming. We look forward to his new album release in late February.

Just discovered this Bibio track from his album, Ovals & Emeralds. It makes one long for endless summer days on deserted beaches.
